Healthy ways to cope with emotions are the most important habits we can learn

Hero Cards are an IMAGINATIVE and ENGAGING card deck for children to help learn and practice science-based tools for wellbeing

Learn simple SUPERPOWERS – Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT) tools that help our hero (and us!) cope with life challenges and our emotions in ways that create resilience and helpful thinking habits

Backed by science

Half of all adult mental health problems start by 14 yrs of age

1 in 6 of all 11–16 years olds are thought to have a mental health problem

Prevention is key. Hero Cards are one way to help skill young people with fun science-backed (Cognitive Behavioural Therapy or CBT) tools to help maintain emotional wellness

CBT techniques are proven to help children as young as 8 years of age. Using just one SUPERPOWER could have a significant positive impact on a child’s mental wellbeing

How do they work?

Pick a HERO & choose a STORY

Learn and explore the EMOTIONS your hero might feel. Understand how THOUGHTS and BEHAVIOURS affect how we FEEL (the aim of Cognitive Behavioural Therapy – CBT)

Recognise POWER ZAPPERS – things we do to cope that feel helpful at first but do not build resilience long-term

Learn SUPERPOWERS – simple CBT techniques delivered in fun ways that help develop effective coping strategies

How do they work?

Childhood is the best time to learn more FLEXIBLE and RESILIENT ways of thinking. This is when our BRAINS are developing and are far more adaptable. By adulthood it can be a lot harder to change our brain wiring. So it’s a vital HABIT to learn when we are young!

About us

Hello! I’m Emmie, psychologist, mum of 3 girls and creator of Hero Cards..

I spent years seeing patients struggling with their mental health – often caused by patterns of negative or unhelpful thinking and coping (that many of us can relate to) stuck on repeat. Sometimes for decades.

It occurred to me – why not teach children and young people how to practice more helpful thinking and ways to respond to uncomfortable emotions to help prevent mental health problems?

The way we think affects how we feel and everything we do. So it is the most important habit kids can learn. That’s where Hero Cards come in!
